Optimization of Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Model Based on Measured Data Using Genetic Algorithm
2017
In this paper, a mathematical model for vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash is developed. The experimental data are taken from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. To model the crash scenario, the two vehicles are represented by two masses moving in opposite directions. The front structures of the vehicles are modeled by Kelvin elements, consisting of springs and dampers in parallel, and estimated as piecewise linear functions of displacements and velocities, respectively. To estimate and optimize the model parameters, a genetic algorithm approach is proposed. Finally, it is observed that the developed model can accurately reproduce the real kinematic results from the crash test…
Application of Genetic Algorithm on Parameter Optimization of Three Vehicle Crash Scenarios
2017
Abstract This paper focuses on the development of mathematical models for vehicle frontal crashes. The models under consideration are threefold: a vehicle into barrier, vehicle-occupant and vehicle to vehicle frontal crashes. The first model is represented as a simple spring-mass-damper and the second case consists of a double-spring-mass-damper system, whereby the front mass and the rear mass represent the vehicle chassis and the occupant, respectively. The third model consists of a collision of two vehicles represented by two masses moving in opposite directions. The springs and dampers in the models are nonlinear piecewise functions of displacements and velocities respectively. More spec…
Speech Intelligibility Analysis and Approximation to Room Parameters through the Internet of Things
2021
In recent years, Wireless Acoustic Sensor Networks (WASN) have been widely applied to different acoustic fields in outdoor and indoor environments. Most of these applications are oriented to locate or identify sources and measure specific features of the environment involved. In this paper, we study the application of a WASN for room acoustic measurements. To evaluate the acoustic characteristics, a set of Raspberry Pi 3 (RPi) has been used. One is used to play different acoustic signals and four are used to record at different points in the room simultaneously. The signals are sent wirelessly to a computer connected to a server, where using MATLAB we calculate both the impulse response (IR…
One diode circuital model of light soaking phenomena in Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells
2018
Abstract In this work, we report on the modelling of light soaking effect on Ruthenium-based Dye Sensitized Solar cells (DSSCs). Such a phenomenon can be detected when exposing the cells at increasing hours of illumination and produces a reversible performance increase. Starting from the results obtained through the electro-optical characterization of the cells, we applied a one-diode circuital-model. Our results show a good agreement between the experimental and the simulated data, with a mean square error in the order of 10−12 and a maximum error in current lower than 0.6%. Finally such results allowed us to infer some precise trends followed by the cells main electrical parameters and of…
Modelling, simulation and characterization of a supercapacitor
2020
In the last decade, the issue of air pollution or the reduction of CO2 emissions has become of extreme interest both for civil society and then for the industrial and scientific research world. For this reason, the scientific research on automotive is called to answer with increasingly innovative solutions. One of the principal subjects are the storage and the utilization of the electric energy for electrical and hybrid vehicles. Nowadays, supercapacitors are getting more and more attention because of their characteristics that allow them to be a bridge between electrolytic capacitors and batteries in several application such as bust-mode energy delivery, regenerative breaks and so on. The …
Sensorless low Range Speed Estimation and Parameter Identification of Induction Motor Drives Devoted to Lifts Automatic Rescue Devices
2010
In this paper a sensorless rotor speed estimation and parameter identification algorithm is presented. The algorithm is designed specifically for induction motor (IM) drives devoted to automatic rescue devices (ARD) used in lifts and hoist applications. Its peculiarity is that it is based on the sinusoidal steady state mathematical model of the IM and, therefore, can be implemented on a low cost micro-controller in a simple way, however without lacking in terms of dynamic performance. It is also capable of self tuning so that no information is required about the specific IM used in the ARD drive. Finally the algorithm allows also an appreciable energy saving of the ARD when compared to olde…
Mathematical modeling and parameters estimation of a car crash using data-based regressive model approach
2011
Author's version of an article in the journal: Applied Mathematical Modelling. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.apm.2011.04.024 n this paper we present the application of regressive models to simulation of car-to-pole impacts. Three models were investigated: RARMAX, ARMAX and AR. Their suitability to estimate physical system parameters as well as to reproduce car kinematics was examined. It was found out that they not only estimate the one quantity which was used for their creation (car acceleration) but also describe the car's acceleration, velocity and crush. A virtual experiment was performed to obtain another set of data for use in further research. An A…
Parameter identification of linear induction motor model in extended range of operation by means of input-output data
2012
This paper proposes a technique for the off-line estimation of the electrical parameters of the equivalent circuit of linear induction machines (LIM), taking into consideration the end effects, and focuses on the application of an algorithm based on the minimization of a suitable cost function involving the differences of measured and computed by simulation inductor current components. This method exploits an entire start-up transient of the LIM to estimate all the 4 electrical parameters of the machine (Rs, L s, σ Ls, Tr). It proposes also a set of tests to be made to estimate the variation of the magnetic parameters of the LIM versus the magnetizing current as well as the magnetizing curv…

A multivariate powered half-normal distribution
2008
The half-normal distribution has applications in various contexts, particularly in economic analysis (to describe, for example, inefficiency variables), reliability analysis and quality control. However, it seems that, still in the recent literature, interest in forms of multivariate distribution with half-normal marginals is remained at a low level. This problem arises, for example, in the context of economic analysis when it needs to examine inefficiency variables simultaneously. Furthermore, from a robustness perspective, the distributional assumption of half-normality may show itself too strong (or the model too rigorous) and to be inconsistent with the real data, thus motivating the ne…
